3rd Annual Southwest Maker Fest 2016
“The Southwest Maker Fest (SWMF) mission is to celebrate, engage, and inspire the maker in each of us.” swmf
The 3rd Annual Southwest Maker Fest is held each year in Downtown Mesa, Arizona. This event was made to be a collaboration that connects and unites the community. It encourages people to explore, learn and participate with the different exhibitors at the event.
This years fest had four sections; the main stage, artist village, youth & sustainability village and the tech & industrial village.
Exhibitors held demonstrations, workshops and presentations that ranged from blacksmith demos from Techshop Chandler, studio glass artist from Mesa Arts Center. Also, interactive exhibits from science experiments to wood pallet workshop from 2nd chance pallet. Tech exhibitors, music and readings on the Main stage plus much much more.
Street Pianos, Mesa : Play Me, I’m Yours
Street Pianos, Mesa. Play me I’m yours kick-off event showcased 24 playable pianos that were donated from different donors around Mesa and then transformed by local Artist into playable art pieces.
All 24 pianos were displayed for one day at the Mesa Art Center to kick off the art project.
The kick-off event also had a performance with 24 pianist to play the art pieces for a small one time concert for the community, here it is in it’s entirety, enjoy!
Each of the 24 pianos will be different locations in Downtown, Mesa AZ for the community to engage and play with.
The pianos will be in Downtown Mesa from March 1st – April 9th.
“Play Me I’m Yours” Art project was started by British artist Luke Jerram.

Goddess of yoga : A themed life drawing session
Will be apart of the festivities in Downtown Mesa for the grand opening of the light rail in Mesa on August 22nd, 2015.
The theme life drawing session is open to everyone. The Model will be wearing a costume with the theme in mind. She will do several 5 minute poses for gesture sketches then hold a particular pose for a long period of time.
You can use a napkin & a pen if you want! Just have fun and meet some new people. There will be other activities going on at Jarrod’s coffee & tea gallery as well. You can also enjoy the art that the coffee shop has from different local and non local artist.
This event starts at 7p and is located at Jarrod’s Coffee, Tea & Gallery 154 W. Main Street, Mesa

The Ribbon Cutting will happen on Center & Main in Front of the Mesa Art Center at 8am.
There are two different events happening for the light rail opening.
First is the Ribbon cutting and Station Celebrations from 8am – noon
Second is Main Street Night Market from 6p – 10p

Mesa Urban Garden celebrates 3 years in Downtown Mesa.
Mesa Urban Garden is a community organization that provides fresh produce directly to the community and local food banks.
The magical garden Celebrated 3 years in downtown Mesa with visual arts and live music.

Recap of the Big Game Big Give Charity Event Cohosted by Mark Wahlberg & Michael Bay
The Giving Back Fund’s Big Game Big Give charity event raised $1.1 million for charity surpassing their goal.
The Giving Back Fund (GBF) is a national public charity that creates and professionally manages charitable foundations and other philanthropic programs for athletes, entertainers, business entrepreneurs, and corporations.
The event this year was Hosted at (Former Arizona Diamond Back) Matt & Erika Williams house. Attendees were greeted by a red carpet fit for an elite awards show, a grand entrance by the Budweiser Clydesdales and a musical performance by Jordin Sparks.
Celebrity guest in attendance included actor AnnaLynne McCord – 90210, actor Gena Lee Nolan – Baywatch, baseball player Bryce Harper – Washington Nationals, singer/musician Gavin DeGraw; special guest Maria Menounos.
